The predicaments faced by China's silicone softener industry

Hits: 807 img

In recent years, China's silicone softener industry has developed rapidly, becoming one of the largest production and consumption markets globally. However, it also faces some predicaments.

Firstly, although silicone softeners outperform traditional fatty acid derivative softeners in terms of effect and durability, they are more difficult to remove, especially when silicone oil spots occur, making rework treatment particularly challenging. This is mainly attributed to the excellent durability of silicone softeners, which poses a certain degree of difficulty in removal. In addition, issues such as silicone oil spots may also affect the softening effect and product quality.

Secondly, China's silicone softener industry suffers from overheating investment and low integration between upstream and downstream industries. Driven by high profits, there has been a boom in investment in silicone monomers domestically. However, newly entered enterprises often fail to consider downstream deep-processing projects simultaneously, exacerbating the problem of low upstream-downstream integration. This not only may lead to resource wastage but also may impact the healthy development of the entire industry.

Furthermore, market competition is increasingly fierce, with both domestic and foreign enterprises actively seeking technological innovation and product upgrades. Major foreign silicone monomer producers possess advanced production technologies and management experience, occupying a significant share of the high-end product market and posing a certain threat to domestic enterprises. Although domestic enterprises are also increasing their R&D investment, there is still a gap between their overall technical level and the international advanced level.

Lastly, environmental protection policies are becoming increasingly stringent, requiring enterprises to develop more environmentally friendly products. This places higher requirements on the production and use of silicone softeners, necessitating enterprises to continuously improve their production processes, reduce pollutant emissions, and meet environmental protection requirements.

In summary, while China's silicone softener industry is developing rapidly, it also faces predicaments such as difficulty in removal, overheating investment, intense market competition, and increasing environmental protection requirements. To address these challenges, enterprises need to strengthen technological innovation, improve production efficiency, enhance environmental awareness, and boost market competitiveness.
