Ethyl silicone rubber is a special type of silicone rubber material, chemically known as polydimethyldiethylsiloxane. It is prepared through the co-hydrolysis reaction of dimethyldichlorosilane and diethyldichlorosilane in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, followed by separation and polymerization. Alternatively, it can also be synthesized through the copolymerization of D4 (a siloxane monomer) and hexaethylcyclotrisiloxane under the action of a catalyst.
The outstanding property of ethyl silicone rubber is its excellent cold resistance. The introduction of ethyl groups disrupts the crystalline properties of silicone rubber, significantly lowering the minimum glass transition temperature of ethyl silicone rubber. Some products can even reach -147°C, making it one of the silicone rubbers with the best low-temperature resistance.
