Classification of Silicone Resin

Hits: 580 img

Silicone resin is a polymer material with special structure and properties, mainly composed of elements such as silicon, oxygen, and carbon. Its classification methods are diverse, and the following introduces the classification of silicone resin from multiple perspectives.

I. Classification by Substituent Groups

Methyl silicone resin: With methyl as the main substituent group, it exhibits good heat resistance, cold resistance, and electrical insulation properties, making it one of the most widely used organic silicone resins.

Phenyl silicone resin: With phenyl as the main substituent group, it has high thermal stability and oxidation resistance, and is widely used in aviation, aerospace, automotive, and other fields.

Ethyl silicone resin: With ethyl as the main substituent group, it possesses good flexibility and weather resistance.

Vinyl silicone resin: With vinyl as the main substituent group, it exhibits good photocurable properties.

II. Classification by Modification

Pure silicone resin: It has a typical polysiloxane structure with side groups being H or organic groups, such as methyl silicone resin and phenyl silicone resin.

Modified silicone resin: By introducing carbon functional groups or modifying with organic polymers, the properties of pure silicone resin are improved, and its application fields are expanded. For example, organic silicone polyester paint, organic silicone epoxy paint, and organic silicone polyurethane paint, etc.

III. Classification by Curing Reaction Mechanism

Condensation-type silicone resin: It undergoes polymerization and crosslinking through dehydration or dealcoholization reactions to form a network structure. This is the curing method adopted by most silicone resin varieties currently.

Peroxide-cured silicone resin: It uses organic silicone polymers containing double bonds and employs peroxides as curing initiators for curing. It is suitable for applications such as coil impregnating varnishes, adhesives, and laminated boards.

Platinum-catalyzed silicone resin: It exists in a liquid form and has mild curing conditions. During curing and film formation, it does not produce bubbles or pits. It is mainly used for bushings, coil impregnating varnishes, laminated boards, etc.

In summary, silicone resins can be classified in various ways, and different types of silicone resins have different properties and application fields.
