Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive is a special pressure-sensitive adhesive made by a specific process with silicone polymer as the main component. It has the characteristics of both organic and inorganic materials and occupies an important position in the field of high-end adhesives.
From the chemical structure point of view, silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive has Si-O bond as the main chain and the side chain is usually an organic group. This unique molecular structure gives it many excellent properties. In terms of temperature resistance, it performs well and can maintain stable performance in the extreme temperature range of -75β to 300β. In high temperature environment, it is not easy to soften, deform or fail; in low temperature environment, it can still maintain sufficient adhesion and elasticity, which makes it have significant advantages in fields with strict temperature requirements such as automobile manufacturing and aerospace.
Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive also has excellent electrical insulation properties, which can effectively isolate current and prevent circuit short circuit and leakage. Therefore, it is widely used in electronics, electrical and communications fields, such as fixing electronic components and insulating protection of circuit boards. At the same time, it has good adhesion to low surface energy materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene and polyethylene, and can play an excellent role on the surfaces of various materials that are difficult to adhere to. It is indispensable for scenes such as sealing of waterproof materials and bonding of plastic pipes.
During production and use, silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive does not produce harmful substances, meets environmental protection requirements, and is recyclable, reducing pollution to the environment. In addition, it can resist the erosion of adhesives by environmental factors such as ultraviolet rays and ozone, has a long service life, and performs well in outdoor applications such as building sealing and automotive exterior decoration.
There are various curing methods for silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives, including free radical crosslinking initiated by peroxides, platinum (Pt)-catalyzed silane hydroaddition crosslinking, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation crosslinking. Different curing methods are suitable for different application scenarios and process requirements.
