Silicone Waterproofing Agent: The "Invisible Shield" of Building Materials

Hits: 403 img

I. Technical Definition and Core Ingredients
Silicone waterproofing agent is a highly effective waterproofing material primarily composed of organosilicon compounds such as sodium methylsiliconate and high-boiling sodium siliconate. It comes in both water-based and oil-based types. It reacts through active silicon atoms with hydroxyl groups on the surface of building materials, forming a UV-resistant, highly breathable silicone resin film. The contact angle can reach 100°-130°, creating a "lotus effect"—water droplets cannot penetrate, but water vapor can pass freely, achieving dual waterproofing and breathability. The product is typically a colorless or pale yellow, transparent liquid with a density of approximately 0.91 g/cm³. It penetrates 3-5 mm deep and is suitable for a variety of substrates, including concrete, masonry, and gypsum.

II. Performance Advantages and Application Scenarios
Highly weather-resistant and environmentally friendly: This material is resistant to acids and alkalis, pollution, and weathering, with a service life of 10-15 years. It is non-toxic, non-volatile, and meets environmental standards. Ease of Application: It can be applied directly by spray or brush to a dry surface in three coats and cured for 8 hours, using only 0.2-0.4 kg/m2. For example, in tunnel waterproofing projects, the water seepage coefficient can be reduced to less than 10 mL/min after spraying.
Multiple Applications:
Building Waterproofing: Used for hard waterproofing of roofs, basements, and pools, addressing water seepage issues on east and north walls;
Cultural Relics Protection: Protecting ancient buildings and stone monuments from weathering and acid rain;
Industrial: Used for moisture-proofing warehouses and archives, as well as waterproofing highways, bridges, and reservoirs.

III. Market Development and Industry Standards
With the advancement of infrastructure investment and the renovation of older urban communities, the market for building waterproofing materials in China continues to expand. Silicone waterproofing agents, due to their superior performance, have become the preferred material for applications such as tunnels and commercial buildings. The improvement of industry standards (such as "T/CPCIF 0373-2024") further promotes market standardization. Local companies such as Zhejiang Kefeng and Hubei Lubang have improved product competitiveness through technological innovation and gradually narrowed the gap with international brands.
