I. Core Characteristics of Organosilicon: A Fusion of Inorganic and Organic Properties
The organosilicon used in the coating industry is a semi-inorganic, semi-organic polymer with a silicon-oxygen bond (Si-O-Si) as the main chain. It combines the heat resistance and weather resistance of inorganic materials with the flexibility and modifiability of organic materials. Its surface tension is as low as 21-24 mN/m, only 1/3 that of water, allowing it to form a uniform and dense coating. It also possesses excellent electrical insulation (high insulation resistance, high breakdown strength), chemical corrosion resistance (resistance to acids, alkalis, salts, and organic solvents), and physiological inertness (non-toxic and odorless). These properties make it a core component of high-end coatings, especially suitable for protection needs in extreme environments.

II. Classification and Functional Positioning of Organosilicon in Coatings
Pure organosilicon coatings: Based on organosilicon resin copolymerized from dichlorosilane and trichlorosilane, these coatings exhibit outstanding heat resistance (250-800℃) and are widely used in high-temperature components of aircraft, corrosion protection of metallurgical equipment, and insulation layers for circuit boards in the electronics industry. For example, coatings made from alkyd-modified silicone resins and aluminum powder can withstand temperatures up to 500℃ for extended periods, making them suitable for applications such as high-temperature furnaces and chimneys.

Modified silicone coatings: These coatings incorporate organic resins such as epoxy, acrylic, and polyurethane to overcome the poor adhesion and low mechanical strength of pure silicone. For instance, silicone-modified acrylic coatings combine weather resistance and flexibility, making them suitable for long-term exposure applications such as building exteriors and bridges; silicone-modified polyester resin coatings are used for metal sheet coatings, offering excellent gloss and color retention.

Water-based silicone coatings: Using water as the dispersion medium, these coatings are highly environmentally friendly, with VOC emissions as low as 100g/L, while maintaining weather resistance and stain resistance, making them a mainstream choice for building exterior coatings. Their breathable properties prevent moisture absorption from the substrate, extending the building's lifespan.
