In the 1960s, Dow Corning Incorporated pioneered the application of polydimethylsiloxane in textile softening, officially launching the world's first commercially available dimethyl silicone oil-based silicone softener. This completely broke the previous product pattern where textile softeners relied solely on paraffin wax and surfactants. At this stage, product performance was relatively basic, achieving only simple smoothing and softening effects. Furthermore, the emulsion stability was poor, and demulsification and oil separation were prone to occur during processing. Applications were limited to a few high-end textile applications in Europe and America, with the global market size still less than 10,000 tons. The industry was in its nascent stage of initial technology validation.

Rapid Popularization Period (1980s-1990s): Breakthrough in Amino Modification Technology
In the 1980s, the implementation of amino-modified silicone softeners became a key turning point for the industry. These products, by linking amino groups to the siloxane side, significantly improved their adsorption and binding force with fibers, resulting in a qualitative leap in softening effect and wash resistance, quickly becoming the mainstream product in global textile finishing. During this period, chemical companies in Germany and Japan also launched their own modified silicone oil products. The penetration rate of silicone softeners in the textile industries of Europe, America, Japan, and South Korea increased rapidly, with global annual consumption exceeding 200,000 tons. The product transformed from a high-end niche category to a standard auxiliary agent in the textile industry.

Diversified Upgrading Period (21st Century to Present): Green Functionalization Becomes the Core Theme
Entering the 21st century, with the continuous tightening of global textile environmental standards, the pain points of traditional amino silicone oils, such as easy yellowing and hydrophobicity, were gradually solved by new-generation modified products. Technologies such as polyether block, low VOC, and narrow molecular weight distribution were successively industrialized, and hydrophilic, low-yellowing, and multifunctional composite silicone softeners became the market mainstream. At the same time, China's industries have risen rapidly, gradually breaking the technological monopoly of overseas companies and becoming the world's largest producer and consumer of silicone plasticizers. The global industry has formed an industrial pattern in which Europe and the United States control cutting-edge high-end technologies, while China leads large-scale and inclusive supply. The overall market continues to upgrade towards green and customized directions.
