Core Functions of Polyethers in Textile Auxiliaries

Hits: 235 img

I. Pre-spinning Process: Establish a Solid Foundation for Production
In pre-spinning stages like yarn spinning and winding, the core function of polyethers is efficient antistatic protection. Synthetic fibers easily accumulate static electricity during friction, causing yarn tangling, increased fuzziness and soaring breakage rates. Polyether antistatic agents form a continuous hydrophilic conductive film on the fiber surface to quickly conduct away accumulated charges, delivering long-lasting and stable antistatic effects for synthetic fibers, drastically reducing yarn breakage and improving the evenness of finished yarns. Some low-foam polyethers also act as lubricants in chemical fiber oils, reducing hard friction between fibers and mechanical parts to extend equipment service life.

II. Dyeing and Finishing Stage: Ensure Smooth Process Execution
In dyeing processes, polyethers cover key functions including defoaming, leveling and wetting. A large amount of stubborn foam easily forms during high-temperature dyeing and paint stirring, leading to uneven fabric wetting, white spots and color streaks. Polyether defoamers rapidly reduce the surface tension of liquid to break foam within seconds, maintaining long-term foam inhibition in complex high-temperature, high-alkali dye baths without affecting dye uptake. As efficient wetting agents, polyethers greatly accelerate the penetration of dye liquor into fiber interiors to shorten the dyeing process. When used with leveling polyethers, they slow down the dye uptake rate to completely avoid uneven dyeing and color difference issues.

III. Post-finishing Stage: Empower Fabric Function Upgrading
In post-finishing processes, polyethers serve as a key carrier to realize multi-functional fabrics. Polyester-polyether hydrophilic finishing agents build a hydrophilic layer on the surface of hydrophobic fibers such as polyester, boosting the stain removal rate of hard-to-clean chemical fiber fabrics to over 75%. The effect remains stable after more than 10 washes, far outperforming ordinary non-durable small-molecule auxiliaries. Modified polyethers can also be compounded with silicone components to endow fabrics with a soft and smooth handfeel without damaging their hydrophilicity, making finished fabrics simultaneously feature antistatic properties, easy stain removal and skin-friendliness, greatly enhancing the added value of textiles.
