Textile auxiliaries are often referred to as the "industrial MSG" of textile processing; although used in small quantities, they directly determine the final quality of the fabric and production efficiency. Their composition forms a clear classification system based on the functional requirements of various production stages.
Base Raw Materials: Surfactants
Surfactants serve as the core raw material for approximately 80% of textile auxiliary products, acting as the fundamental vehicle for achieving various functions. These components fall into four major categories—anionic, cationic, non-ionic, and amphoteric—with each type suited to specific processing scenarios: anionic surfactants offer excellent emulsification and detergency, making them key components in scouring agents and leveling agents; non-ionic surfactants, characterized by strong stability against acids and alkalis, are frequently used as penetrating agents and emulsifiers; cationic surfactants exhibit strong affinity for fibers and are commonly used in fabric softeners; and amphoteric surfactants, known for low irritation and broad compatibility, are often utilized in high-end, skin-friendly auxiliaries.
Functional Auxiliary Components Categorized by Process Stage
These components account for 20% of the total volume of textile auxiliaries, forming a differentiated composition matrix based on the three core stages of textile production: pretreatment, dyeing and printing, and finishing.
Core components for pretreatment auxiliaries include alkalis, penetrating agents, metal ion chelating agents, and biological enzyme preparations; these are used to efficiently remove natural impurities and weaving sizing agents from the surfaces of fibers such as cotton, linen, silk, and wool, ensuring the smooth execution of subsequent dyeing and finishing processes.
Typical components for dyeing and printing auxiliaries include leveling agents, formaldehyde-free fixing agents, pigment printing binders, and synthetic thickeners; these enhance dye uptake uniformity and color fastness while optimizing the clarity and color saturation of printed patterns.
The composition system for finishing auxiliaries is the most diverse, featuring mainstream products such as fourth-generation block-modified silicone polymers, bio-based water repellents, eco-friendly flame retardants, and antistatic agents; these impart special properties—such as softness, wrinkle resistance, antimicrobial capabilities, and flame retardancy—to the fabric, significantly increasing the textile's added value.
Specialized Additives for Chemical Fibers
To meet the specific processing requirements of chemical fibers, a dedicated category of fiber finish oils has been developed; these are formulated from a blend of smoothing agents, antistatic agents, bundling agents, and emulsifiers. Smoothing agents—typically comprising components such as synthetic esters and modified polyethers—are selected to withstand the heat and low-friction demands of high-speed spinning processes, ensuring smooth filament movement and minimizing issues such as fuzzing and breakage during production.
