1. Basic concepts of silicone oil and silicone wax
Silicone oil
Silicone oil is an organic compound containing silicon-oxygen bonds in its chemical structure. It is usually liquid, transparent and has high stability and high temperature resistance. Silicone oil does not evaporate at room temperature, has the advantages of being smooth, not oily, and does not corrode leather and rubber. It has a good effect in lubrication of sewing threads.
Silicone wax

2. The difference between silicone oil and silicone wax for sewing thread
Silicone oil and silicone wax have a common application goal in sewing thread lubrication, which is to provide better protection for the use of sewing threads. However, there are slight differences in their specific usage.
(1)Functional differences
Silicone oil has excellent lubricity, which can effectively prevent thread entanglement and fiber breakage, thereby increasing the service life of the sewing thread. Silicone wax is more suitable for strengthening the surface tension of threads and preventing the generation of static electricity, and has better results when used in conventional fiber materials.
(2)Differences in lubrication effects
Silicone oil can form a lubricating film between fibers on the surface of the thread. This film can prevent the thread from wrapping and excessive friction between the fibers. Silicone wax emphasizes increasing the surface tension of the thread and increasing the friction coefficient between the thread and the contact surface, so as to slowly slide the thread without breaking, thereby effectively reducing the cracking of the sewing thread.

Silicone oil is a lubricant made of organic silicon compounds, the main component of which is polydimethylsiloxane. Silicone wax is a solid wax mixed with materials such as silane, siloxane and diatomaceous earth.
(4)Physical form
Silicone oil is liquid and has high fluidity and lubricity; silicone wax is solid and is commonly found in wax or granular form.

Silicone oil is mainly used for lubrication, rust prevention and anti-corrosion, and is suitable for mechanical equipment, automobile parts, etc.; silicone wax is mainly used for waterproofing, moisture-proofing and surface protection, and is suitable for textiles, leather products, etc.
(6)How to use
Silicone oil is generally used in the form of smearing or spraying, which can form a thin lubricating film on the surface of the object; silicone wax is usually used in the form of smearing or melting and then brushing, which can form a solid protective film on the surface of the object.

To sum up, although silicone oil and silicone wax have the same physical and chemical properties when used in sewing threads, they are still different in their own functions and lubrication effects.
