Current Status and Prospects of Organosilicon

Hits: 806 img

Current Status

Currently, the organosilicon industry is in a phase of rapid development. In 2024, the global organosilicon market size reached USD 20.21 billion, with projections indicating a sustained growth at a compound annual rate of 6.8% from 2024 to 2029. China, as the largest producer and consumer of organosilicon globally, is expected to have a capacity of 7.06 million tons of organosilicon monomers in 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of 24.08% and a new five-year high. However, this rapid growth has also led to competitive pressures on the supply side, with some products, such as organosilicon monomers, gradually entering a phase of overcapacity.

Despite this, the export volume of organosilicon has shown an increasing trend, especially for primary-shaped polysiloxanes, which recorded a cumulative year-on-year increase of 33.94% in the first ten months of 2024. This is mainly attributed to the global economic recovery, improved external environment, and domestic stable foreign trade policies. Additionally, the capacity and profit margins of related organosilicon products such as fumed silica have increased annually.

Prospects

The prospects for the organosilicon industry remain promising in the future. With advancements in new material technologies, the organosilicon industry will further enhance its technological level, leading to the emergence of more new products and driving industry development. Furthermore, governments have provided key support for technological innovation, new energy, and new materials within the organosilicon industry, offering more development opportunities for the sector.

In terms of application fields, organosilicon materials are widely used in construction, medical, aerospace, electronics, and other sectors due to their unique properties. As these fields continue to develop, the demand for organosilicon will also grow consistently. In particular, driven by emerging industries such as new energy and 5G, the production of organosilicon will further increase.

However, it is essential to note the intensifying competition within the industry and issues of overcapacity. In the future, the organosilicon industry needs to continually optimize its industrial structure, improve product quality and technological content, to cope with the increasingly fierce market competition. Additionally, strengthening international cooperation and exchanges and expanding international markets will provide more opportunities and space for the development of the organosilicon industry.
