Molecular structural advantages: Epoxy groups impart lasting softness
Epoxy silicone oils incorporate epoxy groups (-C-O-C-) into the polysiloxane backbone or side chains, creating a unique chemical structure. These groups react with hydroxyl (-OH), amino (-NH₂), and carboxyl (-COOH) groups on the fiber surface through a ring-opening addition reaction, forming stable chemical bonds. This bonding allows the epoxy silicone oil to form a durable coating on the fiber surface, imparting long-lasting softness to the fabric. Experimental data shows that cotton fabric treated with epoxy silicone oil retains 92% of its initial softness after 50 washes, far exceeding the 78% retention rate of conventional amino silicone oils.
Breakthrough in anti-yellowing performance: Addressing the application pain points of conventional silicone oils
Conventional amino silicone oils, due to the primary amine (-NH₂) groups in the oil, are susceptible to forming azo chromophores in response to light, heat, and humidity, causing fabric yellowing. Epoxy silicone oil eliminates the amino structure, eliminating the risk of yellowing at the root. Research has shown that ternary block silicone oils synthesized from epoxy silicone oils with a molecular weight of 15,000 exhibit a 2.45-level improvement in whiteness compared to products with a molecular weight of 4,000. Even after high-temperature treatment at 160°C, they retain 98% of their initial whiteness. This property makes them an ideal softener for white and light-colored fabrics, particularly for applications such as medical textiles and infant clothing, where color fastness is critical.
Multifunctional Modification Potential: Building Composite Performance Systems
Epoxy silicone oils can be enhanced by grafting polyether, amino, and other groups. For example, epoxy-terminated polyether silicone oils significantly improve hydrophilicity while maintaining yellowing resistance, reducing fabric wetting time to less than 2 seconds. Furthermore, the high reactivity of epoxy groups makes them suitable as resin modifiers, enhancing the flexibility and electrical insulation properties of epoxy resins, demonstrating their potential application in electronic packaging materials. This multifunctionality makes epoxy silicone oils a key raw material for building composite performance systems.
