3. Application of fumed silica in pesticides

Liquid agrochemical formulations occupy a very important share of the product mix. Liquid formulas handle active ingredients more efficiently. Common liquid formulas include: emulsifiable concentrate (EC), oil suspension concentrate (OD, OF), and water suspension concentrate (SC).

Fumed silica provides excellent performance as a rheology modifier and anti-settling agent in liquid formulations. As an efficient stabilizer, fumed silica prevents the aggregation of active ingredients and ensures effective dispersion and long-term stability of the product.

Hydrophilic fumed silica used as anti-settling agent and rheology modifier for water suspension (SC), oil suspension (OD) and oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. A mixture of fumed silica and fumed alumina, especially suitable for suspensions in water (SC) and oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions.

Hydrophobic fumed silica, mainly suitable for dispersion and viscosity control of oil suspension agents (OD).

Solid agrochemical formulations have a history of many years. Common dosage forms include: wettable powder (WP), granules (GR) and water-dispersible granules (WG).

The advantage of granular formulations is that they cause little contamination of the emptied packaging, whereas powders (D) generate dust which is undesirable in terms of safety of use. Therefore, powder formulations are increasingly being replaced by granular formulations or liquid systems.

Fumed silica can be used in solid formulations as flow aids, grind aids, anti-caking agents and as carriers for liquid active ingredients. The processed wettable powder (WP) formula has good fluidity and is not easy to clump during storage.
